Self-drive or tour guide
One of the most important decisions that you'll make while planning your Route 66 road trip is whether you want to take the wheel or not. This comes down to a number of factors, including:
- Driving ability and experience
- Driving confidence on overseas roads (US drives on the right-hand side)
- Desire to drive the famous Route 66
- Desire to watch the scenery go past
- Whether you'd enjoy being chauffeured along Route 66 with a driver/guide.
With a self-drive, we provide a Route 66 guide, but you have complete control about where and when you go. This means you can sleep in, depart late or even take a detour to somewhere off the map. However, most people wish to make the most of their tour, and choose to follow the guide, so as not to miss a thing.
That said, if you don't want to drive on the right-hand side of the road, and would rather avoid dealing with traffic and parking, you can be a passenger in your a guide driven vehicle. Whatever your preference, we want to offer you a way to see the real Route 66.
